Mass Mentoring Partnership held its annual Cheers for Champions event, its annual fundraiser and celebration of the power of mentoring. This year, we held the event virtually. The virtual event was featured our event emcee, NESN anchor and sportscaster Tom Caron and featured presentations of the ALKU Scholarship, the James G. Connolly Tribute Fund and the KELLY Award. The virtual event also featured a fireside chat with President and CEO Lily Mendez and remarks from our Mass Mentoring Partnership Board Chair Jacqueline Conrad.
Mass Mentoring Partnership President and CEO Lily Mendez spoke at length with Caron about the challenges and opportunities MMP has faced in the past two years. She talked about the success in shifting to a virtual model of program delivery to our partner organizations, underscored by having more than tripled the annual training hours we've provided compared to pre-pandemic. She talked about our commitment to equity and inclusion along the work of our Bank of America Student Leaders and the research project with Boston University, which will help to inform our work.
The event also featured the unveiling of this year's ALKU scholarship award recipient Naesoj Ware, this year's Kelly Award winner Ismara Diaz, and the recipients of this year's James G. Connolly Tribute Fund Award, Falmouth Volunteers in Public Schools and Boston Adult Technical Academy. All recipients gave inspiring and heartfelt acceptance speeches that underscored the role empowering youth-adult relationships can have in Massachusetts. The presentation closed with a nod to MMP's 30th anniversary, which happens in 2022. The event raised over $160,000 this year.
