2017 Champions of Mentoring: Leveling the Playing Field

Breakfast at Fenway Park

Our 13th Annual Champions of Mentoring breakfast was a memorable event. We heard from several guests, including Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and Red Sox Manager John Farrell, on the critical need for relationships to help level the playing field for young people. Thank you to our friends at Santander for serving as our presenting sponsor!

Champions of Mentoring

James & Colin Connolly, sons of Mass Mentoring Partnership’s late board chair, Jim Connolly, presented the James G. Connolly Tribute Fund award to two organizations, Partners for Youth with Disabilities and Enroot. The funds will go towards their work to expand and enhance their programming that supports empowering relationships for immigrant and refugee youth.

Mentors from Big Sister Association of Greater Boston and the Center for Teen Empowerment, joined their mentees, Shelby and Taya, at the podium as they accepted their KELLY Award scholarships in support of their educational pursuits.

Last but not least, we recognized our Champions of Mentoring, State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry and Tom Caron, for their dedication to serving youth and their long-standing partnership with MMP. We honored Senator Linda Dorcena Forry for her leadership as a public servant within the 1 st Suffolk District, giving youth a voice and expanding their access to opportunities and success. As an MMP Board Member, Tom Caron has been a longtime emcee of the Champions of Mentoring event and a dedicated supporter of youth sports across the state.

Leveling the Playing Field

Through powerful stories of overcoming hardships, testimonial videos, and discussions online via #MMPChampions, one message was clear:

No one would be where they are today if it wasn’t for the support of caring adults in their lives.
