Teaming up for mentoring
Both the Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox are doing their part to support youth mentoring in Massachusetts!
The Boston Celtics chose Mass Mentoring as one of 5 official community partners for the 2007-08 basketball season as part of its season ticket donation program.
During the 2007-08 season, season ticket holders can donate any preseason or regular season tickets to the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation.
MMP has more than 50 programs that are particpating and will receive tickets to games for matches throughout the season. If you are interested in donating, please visit the Season Ticket Holder ALL ACCESS page.
A shortage of volunteers means thousands of kids are currently on waiting lists for mentors across Massachusetts.
To help bridge the gap, Mass Mentoring Partnership has teamed up with the Boston Red Sox for the third year of the Red Sox Mentoring Challenge. At the helm as honorary campaign chairman is NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, who serves on the board of MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership.
Right now nearly 5,000 kids are waiting for a mentor in the Commonwealth, but the Challenge has helped to reduce the gap.
Since 2005, nearly 1,000 prospective mentors from across the Commonwealth have been identified, and of those, it’s estimated that more than 300 adults have been matched with a child or are going through the process of becoming a mentor.
