Note: The training runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on September 28th and October 5th, with an optional third day on October 13th. Attendance is required on both September 28th and October 5th to complete the training.
Mass Mentoring Partnership is excited to announce the return of the Mentoring Institute, designed to provide all the necessary tools and information you need to create and sustain empowering youth-adult relationships through the modality of mentoring. This two-day training (with an optional third day) was created with your busy schedules and unique program needs in mind. The Mentoring Institute builds upon MMP’s existing training curriculum, offering new staff at mentoring programs the opportunity to receive the quality training they need to hit the ground running and work effectively with mentors and other staff.
The Mentoring Institute offers information and tools based on the Elements of Effective Practice, the nationally recognized research-based standards for youth mentoring. Participants will learn proven practices to support empowering youth-adult relationships and build the skills to use them in their programs. Institute topics include an introduction to mentoring and the basics of program operations including recruitment, screening, training, and matching and match support. Each six hour day is activity based, practical, and packed with tools, tips, and resources that meet the needs of new program staff. Participants will receive MMP’s Mentoring Institute Workbook and the Introduction to Mentoring Toolkit, containing many tools and templates to support programming.
This year, the Mentoring Institute features an optional third day where participants can receive technical assistance on specific challenges related to Mentoring Institute content. Participants will get in-person feedback from trainers to further strengthen practices in areas such as mentor training and match support.
The Mentoring Institute is a great introduction to the Elements of Effective Practice and is essential for all new program staff to get the training needed to provide high quality mentoring programming.
You’ll walk away with the ability to:
- Define youth mentoring and recognize the essential components of a quality mentoring program
- Apply the Elements of Effective Practice in your program practices
This training is best for:
- New mentoring program staff and AmeriCorps members
- Seasoned staff that need a “refresher” in quality program practices
