January is National Mentoring Month, and we are highlighting a number of perspectives on mentoring, events, and ways you can get involved in the field. Today's post, a match highlight, is submitted from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central MA/Metrowest.
Big Sister Kathryn Ludden was matched with her Little Sister, Megan, age 7, in the fall of 2011. According to Megan’s mom, Sheri, the match really brings out the child within Megan as well as Kathryn!
Megan and Kathryn have fun wherever they go, no matter what they are doing. In fact, their goal every time they get together is to have good, clean, simple fun. Kathryn shares, “Megan is the kind of girl who is excited about everything. She loves going places like the movies, just as much as she loves playing a game of tic-tac-toe at my kitchen table.”
Kathryn recalls one of her favorite memories being a time when she went to Plaster Fun Time with Megan. “I had never been there before, but Megan had. It was so fun to watch her take on a teacher role. She delicately taught me what to do, and how to get the best results. I could tell she was having a blast…and honestly, isn’t that what it’s all about?”
Kathryn and Megan are always doing a lot of arts and crafts, baking and building things. Megan’s mom shares that “Megan always beams when she talks about Kathryn. She is always to excited to see her and spend time with her.” Being Kathryn’s Little Sister has increased Megan’s self-esteem, confidence and has given her her own identity. Being Megan’s Big Sister has enabled Kathryn to enjoy life with a new friend and rekindle the child within!
