The following blog entry is excerpted from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin Co.'s match application to participate in the pre-game activities for Mentoring Night at Fenway Park.
10-year old Jordan from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin Co. had the honor of being a Bat Boy for the Red Sox-Indians game during Mentoring Night at Fenway Park on May 24. The game helped kickoff the annual Red Sox Mentoring Challenge, an initiative designed to recruit more caring adults as mentors.
He and his mentor, Rob, met in late November 2012 and hit it off right away. They share the same favorite color (purple), an abiding love of zombie movies and swimming at the local Y.
Jordan enjoys the one-on-one attention he receives in his match with Rob, who enjoys the bond with Jordan as they become more comfortable with each other.
Rob says his goal is to boost Jordan's self-esteem and help him see that he can succeed in school and go on to college. Be sure to check out more of their terrific story on our Stories of Mentoring app on Facebook.
