In honor of Mass Mentoring Partnership’s late Board Chair, Jim Connolly, the James G. Connolly Tribute Fund is an annual award of $20,000 supporting the needs of youth-serving organizations and programs across Massachusetts. This year, we were excited to honor the 2018 James G. Connolly Tribute Fund winners, Roca Inc. and Silver Lining Mentoring to develop strategies to support college and career readiness to meet the needs of older youth, ages 16-24.

Congrats Roca, Inc. and Silver Lining Mentoring!

Celebrating the 2018 KELLY Scholarship Winner

In addition to recognizing the work of programs and individuals, we recognize young people in an empowering mentoring relationship through the KELLY Award. Nominated by their mentor, the award provides educational support to young people of any age who have overcome adversity. We were inspired by this year's winner, Lucilia "Lucy" Gonczalves, a student at UMass-Dartmouth, nominated by her mentor, Janet. Congratulations, Lucy!

Celebrating the 2018 KELLY Scholarship Winner

We ended the event with a critical conversation on Breaking Down Barriers & Building Equity: We were joined by three former pro athletes now senior professionals - Boston Red Sox Manager, Alex Cora, Red Sox Foundation Executive Director, Rebekah Salwasser& State Street Chief Diversity Officer, Paul Francisco - to discuss the importance and impact of mentoring relationships had in their lives to overcome barriers such as racism, sexism, and language. At the end of the program, there was one message clear: Relationships Matter

"Because of formal & informal mentoring, I

sit before you right now. I'm a representation that mentoring is important."

 - Paul Francisco, Chief Diversity Officer, State Street

The MMP team rounded out the day with a game at Fenway with mentors and mentees from across the state at the 2018 Mentoring Night at Fenway. MMP is grateful to the Boston Red Sox and all of the sponsors who made this special day possible.

At Mass Mentoring Partnership, we believe that every young person has the right to access mentoring relationships and that the best way to achieve that is to mobilize a powerful network of individuals, organizations, and government, strengthening our communities. Addressing the real challenges youth face every day in schools, at home, and in their communities is critical in moving our work forward to help young people reach their full potential.

You can support MMP's mission to give ALL youth in Massachusetts access to empowering youth-adult relationships by donating directly to MMP -or- bidding in the 2018 Champions Online Auction.
