Helping Staff Be More Culturally Responsive

The Massachusetts Service Alliance is committed to increasing the number of people engaged in meaningful volunteer opportunities across Massachusetts that are both fulfilling for the volunteers and that meet critical needs in our communities. We coordinate and administer several programs, including the AmeriCorps and Commonwealth Corps service programs.
Mass Mentoring Partnership has been a great partner with us since 2008 through their AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring Program. In 2016, we turned to MMP to provide important training for program directors and staff at several of our AmeriCorps program partners. We relied on MMP’s expertise to help our programs understand the role that cultural responsiveness and cultural competency play in their work. Many of our partners struggle with how to prepare staff for relationships with both young people and adults from different backgrounds. Those training experiences gave our programs the tools they needed to better serve their sites and communities. There aren’t many organizations like Mass Mentoring Partnership that are equipped to provide these services and we’re glad to partner with them.
